Agape's History

History of Agapé Senior:

A dream was born in 1984: A young married couple, just out of divinity school, was assigned to several United Methodist churches in and around the Smoaks, Walterboro, and Summerville area of South Carolina. For the next four years they faithfully ministered to the members of each church they were serving. It was during that time that the husband’s life literally changed forever, as he witnessed the plight of an elderly couple in one of his churches. The young minister knew that he must find a better way to care for senior adults. Agape Senior is the manifestation of that simple dream.

Agapé Senior began as one small assisted living facility in West Columbia, South Carolina. Today, Agapé Senior is one of the largest providers of senior health care services throughout the state, and the largest provider of hospice services in SC.

As the company grew it became important for support services to keep pace with the high standard of delivery expected for residents and their families. Many of today’s existing companies which fall under Agapè Senior's umbrella are a direct result of a desire to provide superior services for seniors in every community Agape Senior serves.
